A few days after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Mtn2Sea Ministries sent out emails to friends of the ministry to help raise money to package and send food to Haiti. The emails got forwarded around to others and in a weeks time, over $12,000 was raised. The money came from many different places. We had many individuals, churches, schools and civic groups in Glynn County give generously The emails also reached other parts of South GA from Homerville to St. Marys where again individuals, churches and schools raised and sent money. The money was sent to Kids Against Hunger which supplies the materials and food for volunteers to package. Kids Against Hunger ships the food for free through other agencies and the government which, with the use of volunteers, allows for no or extremely minimal administration costs.
Last Saturday we had 300+ volunteers physically packaging the food in Brunswick, GA – 50,000 meals worth! On Sunday I personally drove the food to Fort Pierce, Florida to insure it got to it's destination. The food will be flown from Fort Pierce to Haiti on a Missionary Flights International cargo plane, where it will be placed in a warehouse at the airport owned by MAF. The food will be personally picked up by missionaries from South GA (in Haiti) and delivered to the Christian Light School. The school has become a distribution center set up to feed those in the tent cities that surround the school.
Please know that we are making sure that all the money raised is going to those in need. We are also, working extremely hard to eliminate any "Red Tape" or other obstacles that might prevent the aid from getting to the people who desperately need it. We will be packing more food to send down as soon as we can get more supplies.
From every one at Mtn2Sea Ministries, we want to express our great thanks to all those who have come together to help us help those in need.
